Westpac Scholars Trust announces new award – The Helen Lynch AM Leadership Award

We are thrilled to announce that today we are launching the inaugural Helen Lynch AM Leadership Award, valued up to $10,000.

 

This annual award is named after Helen Lynch, one of the founding directors of Westpac Scholars, and recognises the immense contribution a Westpac Scholar has had in building a more inclusive Australia, an area close to Helen’s heart.

 

Helen was with Westpac for most of her career, and in 1993 became Chief General Manager of Corporate Affairs. No woman had ever gone higher in management of an Australian bank before. Throughout her leadership roles at Westpac Helen championed for changes to women’s access to finance, made significant advancements to close the gender pay gap and advocated for LGBTQI+ rights and inclusion. 

 

In 1994, Helen was appointed a Member of The Order of Australia for services to the banking and finance industry and in 2003 was awarded The Centenary Medal for her contribution to business leadership and to the community. In 2005 she also received the honorary award of Doctor of Griffith University.

 

The Helen Lynch AM Leadership award is to support members of the W100 Network who are demonstrating leadership, collaboration and impact and have a bold vision to create a more Inclusive Australia.

 

The recipient will receive:

• Up to $10,000 in funding to develop your leadership and networks.
• The opportunity to gain new knowledge and networks through a bespoke development plan.
• Mentoring with a senior executive of Westpac Group, Westpac Scholars or National Selection Panel member.
• Opportunity to attend the Westpac Scholars Summit in 2024.
