About me

My academic interests converge at the intersection of security, society, and Australia's engagement with and in Southeast Asia. Coming from a mixed Asian and European family, I have navigated the richness and tensions of multiple cultural identities, which has given me a personal stake in examining the dynamics shaping our region. This has driven me to approach my security studies degree through an interdisciplinary perspective that draws upon sociology and anthropology alongside geopolitics. I was fortunate to pursue these interests through a year of study in Singapore and Indonesia, where I examined how ASEAN countries navigate regional politics and the role of multiculturalism in nation-building. I hope to do my part — through research, policy, and diplomacy — in uplifting Australia into a more regionally integrated partner that engages our neighbourhood with a long-term vision for deeper cultural and strategic connection and understanding. Outside of university, I enjoy volunteering in youth organisations, language learning, journaling, and casual birdwatching.
Australia's future is deeply intertwined with Southeast Asia: strategically, economically, and culturally. This Fellowship allows me to build upon the regional literacy I cultivated throughout my studies, and to grow as a leader who can channel that understanding into the policies and people-to-people connections that will help close the gap between how Australia sees itself and how it is seen in the region.
