About me

My PhD research focuses on engineering enzymes to perform chemical reactions more efficiently and sustainably than conventional methods. As advances in machine learning accelerate biological design, engineered enzymes are transforming fields from pharmaceuticals to green chemistry. Australia has great expertise in synthetic biology and protein engineering, yet our large-scale biomanufacturing capacity is limited. I recently completed a research placement in South Korea which was not only personally rewarding but reinforced my belief that international collaboration advances innovation. As such, I am passionate about seeing Australia's expertise leveraged through stronger biomanufacturing partnerships across Asia. The early stages of my PhD coincided with unexpected health challenges, including a knee reconstruction and complications from jaw surgery. Working through these challenges reshaped how I approach both research and life, teaching me to value progress over perfection. Nowadays, in my spare time I enjoy studying Korean and weightlifting, both serving as reminders that growth takes patience.
The future of Australia’s biomanufacturing industry will be shaped by how well we collaborate within our region. Stronger partnerships across the Asia-Pacific can help us overcome limitations in scale and infrastructure. This Fellowship will equip me with the skills to contribute meaningfully to that future.
