About me

As a woman studying science, I often looked around my classes and didn’t feel like I belonged. I thought it was because I study languages (Mandarin, Literary Chinese, Korean and French), I love fashion (ask me anything about Vivienne Westwood!), and that my interests outside of my degree aren’t stereotypically ‘sciencey’. Getting involved in gender equity in STEM advocacy made me realise I wasn’t alone and led to my work as Executive Director of Fifty50 and GEN-STEM – grassroots organisations targeting gender equity in the early STEM workforce pipeline. As an Australia-Asia Fellow I am excited to apply my background in STEM, gender equity advocacy, languages and the Sinosphere while learning from my peers as we work together to better understand this incredibly diverse and fast-growing part of the world. In my spare time I love to read about the world – anything nonfiction – watch films and take photos on film.
In an increasingly interconnected world, in my field of biomedical science I am dedicated to making sure that Australia steps up and collaborates with our neighbours in the Asia-Pacific to build a shared, brighter future. I truly believe my time on exchange in Asia changed my life, and once I got back to Australia I was determined to continue engaging with the Asia-Pacific region. I am thrilled that I get the chance as a Westpac Australia-Asia Fellow to return, while deepening my connection to this region that has given me so much.
