Australia in Asia
About me
I am a criminology student passionate about social justice, digital governance, and strengthening Australia’s engagement with the Asia–Pacific. Having grown up in the Philippines and later moving to Australia alone for high school, I developed a deep awareness of how culture, community, and opportunity shape people’s lives. My academic focus explores youth justice and technology, and I plan to undertake a Master’s and eventually a PhD to contribute to developing criminology research across Australia and Asia, particularly in Southeast Asia where the field remains emerging. Through exchanges and internships in Japan and the UK, I developed a stronger appreciation for working thoughtfully across cultures and contexts. Outside academia, I am an avid reader who has worked in libraries and bookstores for years and completed TAFE qualifications in Library and Information Services. I rarely leave home without a book in my bag and am always happy to talk about my current read.
The Westpac Australia–Asia Fellowship represents an opportunity to learn within the region, not just about it. I hope to use this experience to strengthen connections between Australia and Southeast Asia and contribute to more culturally informed approaches to youth justice and digital harm.
