Australia in Asia

About me

As an Indian-Australian, making a home in both countries has been a common tale of immigrants - the shared experience of grappling with identity and working hard to create a future that is worth the efforts and sacrifices. It has been pleasantly surprising seeing my simple curiosity for the world, which led me to studying a double degree in Asian Studies and International Relations at the Australian National University, turn into a mind tool that has helped me understand my place and identity in this world. Surrounded by the diasporic community, my university life has largely been that of respectful curiosity and learning how unique and unifying cultures can be. As such, nothing would make me prouder than to pursue a career that contributes to creating sustainable futures, with a more connected and resilient Asia-Pacific community. Whether it is through joining DFAT, working within Australia’s embassies in Asia, or embassies in Australia, my goal is to help Australia engage with Asia through genuine partnership and a more comprehensive understanding. Outside of this, my interests consist of cooking, reading fiction and listening to my friends’ dramatic lives!
The Westpac Australia-Asia Fellowship will help me contribute to efforts that build a more inclusive national conversation by supporting policies and public narratives that amplify underrepresented voices, break discriminatory barriers and recognise multicultural identities. I would like to do my part in fostering a kind, empathetic and respectfully inclusive home in Australia!
