About me
I've spent the last three years of my life across Singapore, China, Australia and Germany. Initially coming from a background in medical science, I've transitioned to a focus on the philosophical and humanistic side of medicine, adding a philosophy major to my degree. I care about understanding how different people see the world, and how these perspectives influence the ways we relate to one other. I value storytelling as a medium for personal expression and am increasingly drawn to understanding the intersection between medicine and the arts. I have a growing interest in the philosophy of medicine, narrative ethics and cross-cultural bioethics. Having lived across cultures, and seen how cultural and social factors shape beliefs, I've confronted the biases and assumptions my life rests on. As a future clinician, I've realised the most useful question doctors can ask isn't "who is right?", but rather "how do I understand this person?".
The Westpac Australia-Asia Fellowship offers me a unique opportunity to bridge my background in medical science with my passion for understanding how culture shapes healthcare. By studying narrative ethics and cross-cultural bioethics across Asia, I hope to bring back insights that will help Australian clinicians better serve our increasingly diverse communities. I believe the future of medicine depends not just on better technology, but on deeper human understanding.
