Australia in Asia
About me
Some of my earliest memories are of travelling back to Myanmar with my mum to volunteer, visiting aged-care homes and orphanages and meeting children my age who simply didn’t have access to formal schooling. It made education feel less like a given and more like a privilege, and it left me with a persistent question: how do we make economic security and the opportunities it unlocks more accessible? I’m now studying finance and accounting at the University of Melbourne to understand how capital, policy, and incentives shape outcomes for communities. That question followed me to China, where six months abroad exposed me to “China speed” and “China ambiguity” in everyday and professional life; how fast decisions move, and how much relationships and context influence outcomes. Looking ahead, I want to grow as a leader with strong Asia capability by learning directly from policymakers, business leaders, and academics, and using that insight to facilitate more informed, constructive Australia–Asia collaboration. Outside of this, I love golfing, matcha and all foods spicy!
Being Asia-capable is more than just understanding a country’s culture or history. It is the ability to interpret context in real time. Recognising unspoken dynamics, shifting expectations, subtle nuances and responding in ways that strengthen trust. In a region defined by speed, ambiguity, and relationships, adaptability becomes a leadership skill, not just a cultural one.
