About me

Some of my fondest memories come from swimming in the ocean, from the freezing waters of the Southern Ocean to long swims off the shores of Rottnest Island, and I have developed a strong and enduring affinity for the sea. This connection has shaped both my personal interests and my academic career. My research focuses on developing statistical machine learning methods, with a strong emphasis on uncertainty quantification for oceanographic applications. One example of this work is improving the reliability of estimates of marine heatwave movement along the Ningaloo Reef. I am especially motivated by interdisciplinary research that bridges mathematics and statistics with meaningful real-world applications. Outside of my research, I am a competitive open-water swimmer and enjoy spending time at the beach, which continually reinforces my passion for the oceans and their study.
The ocean is the world’s largest carbon sink and accounts for 50% of global photosynthesis. Understanding the ocean is essential for a sustainable future.
